Breakfast of Champions: Hilton Head Style

Best Spots For Breakfast On Hilton Head

Breakfast of Champions: Hilton Head Style

Breakfast, commonly referred to as the most important meal of the day by those that know, is so much more than just a meal. As a bunch of foodies who are always in search of a good place to grab breakfast on the Island, we thought it would be nice to list out some of our favorites that made our personal list of the beast restaurants for breakfast on Hilton Head.

a favorite among locals and visitors alike

All around breakfast: Nectar Farm Kitchen

New to the south-end scene, Nectar Farm Kitchen is quickly becoming a favorite among locals and visitors alike. From what we have discovered, you can’t go wrong with anything on the breakfast menu, but we do have a few favorites.

For starters you do not want to miss out on the “Sticky” Honey Bun, perfect for sharing, or keeping all to yourself (we’re not judging). This honey bun is fit for a king! The delicious soft baked dough topped with Horsecreek Apiaries Honey Glaze is divine. Pair that with some Smothered Tater Tots and you have yourself the beginning of a very nice Sunday Funday or any old day!

If you are looking for something on the lighter side, we recommend the Yogurt Parfait Bowl with homemade granola or check out the Green Eggs & Ham! This adult spin on the Dr. Seuss classic pairs scrambled eggs with seasoned potatoes, Salsa Verde, Farmers Cheese, Ham and Tortillas.

Southern breakfast favorites are plentiful as well. Topping our list in that category are the Biscuits & Sawmill Gravy and the Chicken & Waffles with hot honey and warm maple syrup.

The chefs at Nectar Farm Kitchen are as passionate about food as the regional farmers that they work with are about perfecting their craft.

Regional farms and products incorporated into the menu include Hickory Hill Milk from Edgefield, SC (we recommend trying the chocolate milk), River Root Farms from Bluffton, Fili West Farms providing some of the most amazing eggs from Vance, SC and while the list goes on and on we can’t forget to mention the source of the delicious honey that highlights so many of their signature dishes, Horsecreek Apiaries and Honey from Bowman, SC.

You can pick up some of those items, like the Horsecreek Apiaries Honey  at The Hive Southern Pantry to take home with you.

Doors open at 8am, but if you are not an early riser, don’t worry, they serve breakfast all day!

grab a quick yet savory and filling breakfast

Best Bagel: Island Bagel & Deli

With so much to do on the island, you may not be in the mood to sit down and wait, we don’t blame you. Island Bagel is our favorite place to grab a quick yet savory and filling breakfast. As their name suggests, bagels are their specialty and boy do they do them well! Island Bagel & Deli features 16 varieties New York style bagels, made fresh daily, and 12 flavors of cream cheese meaning that in bagels alone you have hundreds of combination possibilities.

Pick out your favorite bagel and make it into a java-sandwich as well. Our personal favorite is the “Lowcounty” with Bacon on a Onion bagel (with a Blueberry scone and large coffee on the side).

authentic French baked goods by Chef Philipe Ferret

Best Pastries: Social Bakery

Great pastries, truly great pastries, are hard to come by, but we found them right here on Hilton Head. Social Bakery features authentic French baked goods by Chef Philipe Ferret, who formerly helmed restaurants such as “Windows on the World” in the Twin Towers and Tavern on the Green in New York City. Chef Ferret grew up in Normandy, France working in his father’s bakery and it is easy to tell that he learned all of the secrets of perfect French pastry. If you’re looking for an introduction to French baking, try the simple yet divine Croissants or Pain Aux Raisins. Their coffee is fantastic also and you can read here about some little known coffee facts.

If you have a sweet tooth no matter what time of day it is, dive into a Chocolate Éclair or the Banana Bread Pudding. Specialty coffee drinks, like the Iced Chai Latte, complement everything on the menu and its always a good idea to think ahead and grab some of their delicious desserts to go along with your dinner! Our dessert picks would be the Raspberry Macaroon or the Triple Berry Tart.

at Delisheeyo you can grab breakfast in a cup or bottle too

Best Smoothies and Fresh Juice: Delisheeyo

Breakfast does not always require a plate and fork, at Delisheeyo you can grab breakfast in a cup or bottle too. Delisheeyo focuses on making healthy food taste amazing. The pride that they put into everything they serve is evident before you even walk in the door. Their building is surrounded by their very own organic garden complete with kale, papaya, guava, lemons, limes, berries, veggies and herbs galore, all of which they use to make the best smoothies and juices on the island.

We recommend the Green Detox smoothie, especially if you have been overindulging in all of the great not so healthy food options on the island. If you are looking for a fresh juice fix, the Orange Sunshine is sure to brighten up your day or go off on your own and create your very own specialized juice from the lengthy list of ingredients the Delisheeyo team prepares daily.

it secretly has the best brunch on the whole island

Best Brunch: Dockside

A visit to Hilton Head Island would not be complete without a visit to Dockside. This restaurant not only has the best seafood and the best view, it secretly has the best brunch on the whole island. Don’t believe me, try for yourself. As soon as you walk in you can see where the name Dockside comes from. You feel like you are sitting in a house by the dock where fishermen congregate after a long day.

The view from the restaurant is always breathtaking, whether you are sitting inside or outside. But the view would be meaningless unless it had truly special food. While everything on the dinner menu is worth trying, I think the brunch menu is where the food truly shines. The Eggs Benedict is probably the best thing on the menu. Second to that is the Crab Cake Benedict. A toasted English muffin with poached eggs or crab cakes has never been so good! Complete that with breakfast potatoes and you have the best brunch on Hilton Head Island.
